Golf Notes

Gullane No 1;
A quality links championship course with a history of hosting international Championships including final qualifiers when the Open is at Muirfield; The well maintained greens , links grasses, many bunkers and sea breezes make this a unique challenge for the serious golfer;
North Berwick West
The West links of North Berwick, like St Andrews Old Course, starts and finishes within the town; The course is one of East Lothians most respected in the area and indeed Scotland;
Luffness
Links Course; The Luffness New is employed as an Open qualifying course and although not long professionals afford it with utmost respect;
Dunbar
An exceptional links course, a natural strip of seaside turf, predominantly flat, in wonderful condition and a worthy-qualifying venue when the Open Championship event is held at Muirfield

Accommodation in the Edinburgh area

Greywalls
Greywalls has been a family home for most of its history. Edward VII was a guest before the Great War and since 1924 three generations of the same family have owned and cared for this lovely Edwardian house. The style and comfort of Greywalls is, perhaps, best exemplified by the quiet luxury of the panelled library; a large, peaceful room lined with books, comfortably furnished and warmed by a log fire. The "Athens of the North" Edinburgh, with its history, pageantry and excellent shopping is a mere 30 minutes away. Then there is golf - a dozen courses, including several championship ones, are within a 20 minute drive of Greywalls, and the house itself overlooks the greens of the 9th and 18th holes at Muirfield, one of the most famous golf courses in the world. Greywalls, located in this delightful yet undiscovered region of Scotland, is the perfect haven for an idyllic escape from the hustle and bustle of today's pressured world.

For the golfer and non-golfer there is plenty to do in this area, some suggestions as follows

  • Deep Sea World (Scotland's National Aquarium)
  • Edinburgh Castle
  • Royal Yacht Britannia
  • Holyrood Palace
  • Scottish Whisky heritage Center
  • Scottish Tartens museum
